In the north of the island you find small rocky bays and, from Kendwa to the north-west part of Nungwi, a gorgeous stretched sandy beach. As the tides here are very weak and there is no coral reef, you can swim all the day long in the sea.

Nungwi was a small fishermen‘s village, in the past well known as a dhow boatyard. Now it has changed into a busy touristic area, nicknamed „Jambo Square“, very popular with backpackers. The northeast part of Nungwi is depending on the tide and more quiet, here you find some upper class hotels.
Kendwa, formerly a tranquil and peaceful place is now famous for its Full Moon Parties.
